If it wasn't clear, which it probably isn't, Starling is a fictional character on a fictional MUSH, Hogwarts Express, that exists solely in the minds of many. She ain't real, yeah? Yeah. Good.
Many moons ago a kindly, if absent minded witch, Tammy, came into contact with a muggle by the name of John MacKintosh. That contact soon became rather -intimate- contact, all without John discovering his tricky girlfriend's magical secret. One th ing lead to another, and the two were wed. Most people would think hiding such a big secret would be impossible. It was made easier, however, by the fact that Tammy was largely estranged from her mother, after her father's death, and had no other surviving family. Thus, the secret was easily kept, even if it did gnaw away at Tammy. Starling was born, and quickly showed a propensity for Charms, which at the time simply manifested itself as being quite likable to everyone. However, it worried her mother to no end, who recognized the latent magical-ness for what it was. Starling was very much a daddy's girl, though she was hardly spoiled by her architect father. They were simply very close, which lead Tammy to jealousy. When Starling was six and a half, she was joined by another little girl, who began showing a similar magical propensity, though not for charms. Their relationship was always a kind one, as their parents relationship was getting to be slightly strained, and Star turned into as much a protector as anything else.
All her mother's fears came to a crecendo, however, upon Star's eleventh birthday, when a letter or two arrived from a mysterious school. Tammy quickly denied it to her confounded daughters and husband, though couldn't keep up the charade for much longer, and revealed her background to her family. Their already strained marriage could not take much more, and that was the straw that broke the camel's back, leading to a surprisingly amiable divorce. Starling stayed with her father much of the time, though not for long, as she was quickly off to Hogwarts!
Her first few years passed without incidenct, many friendships made, but none that would survive the passage of time. In third year she took Arithmancy, and Muggle Studies, figuring she would need any edge she could get. And living much of her life as muggle was quite an edge indeed! Now she approches her seventh year. She has a similar relationship with her mother that her mother had with her grandmother. They speak cordially of course, but as Starling spends all of her vacation time with her father, she is hardly close to her mother. And now, of course, her sister is starting her first year at hogwarts! How exciting for both girls.
